One of Agatha Christie's finest detective stories features a classic English locked-room mystery. The events of the novel Hercule Poirot's Christmas unfold during the days leading up to and following Christmas, from December 22 to 27, at Gorston Hall, a country house in the fictional town of Longdale on the border of England and Scotland. At the heart of the story is the murder of the house's owner, elderly millionaire Simeon Lee, who has decided to gather all his children for Christmas for the first time in twenty years. The murder occurs on Christmas Eve after a major family scandal. The primary investigation is led by the talented Inspector Sugden, supported by Colonel Johnson, the local police chief. Since Hercule Poirot is a guest at Colonel Johnson's home on the night of the murder, the colonel invites the famous detective to assist in solving the case as an unofficial consultant, and as always, Poirot brilliantly rises to the challenge.
