Shooting an Elephant

George Orwell was a man of many contradictions. He was a police officer in Burma, acting as instrument of the colonial politics. He abandoned this profession later to become a dishwasher in Paris and London, facing himself the hardships of the poor and the working class. This experience formed Orwell as a democratic socialist, and his political beliefs were a significant part of his identity. His writing is clear and concise and still resonates with a reader today.
