The Moon And Sixpence

The Moon and Sixpence is one of the most profound works by the English literary classic William Somerset Maugham. The novel tells the dramatic story of a man who, in his mature years, feels the gift of an artist within himself and dares to radically change his life. The author neither takes sides nor moralizes or condemns Charles Strickland, whose prototype was Paul Gauguin, for his cruel treatment of those close to him, nor does he praise him for his determination, leaving the reader to draw their own conclusions. The book includes the unadapted text in the original language, supplemented with commentary, exercises, and a glossary.
